MUN works when school and home pull together. This page sets out what we run, what it costs, how we keep you informed, and what we need you to sign.
You trust us with your child, in Doha and abroad. We keep you informed, we are clear about money, and we tell you what we expect. Those four words are the deal, and this page holds us to it.
Families meet the cost of the conferences, both the national conferences here in Qatar and the international trip to New York. We do not hide that. The figures, what they cover, and the payment schedule are shared in good time. As a guide, the international cost usually covers academy enrolment, conference access, accommodation, and materials. It does not usually cover airfare or visa fees. Some costs become non-refundable once the school commits places, so please plan before you register.
For the international trip, you do not have to pay it all at once. We can set up a plan: start with an amount, then add a little each month up to the registration deadline in January.
Two rules are firm. Payment comes first: a student is registered for a conference only once we have received the payment. And the payment is not refunded if a student later drops out.
Money should never be the reason a child misses out. If the cost is difficult for your family, please reach out to me directly and we will look at it together, in confidence. There are usually options, and we want what is best for the students, so that every one of them gets this opportunity. You can write to the MUN director (enable JavaScript to view the address).
Consent is not a one-off. There are two stages. First, when your child joins MUN, you sign a registration consent form: it lets you know what the programme involves and confirms you are happy for your child to take part in national conferences, and possibly an international one, across the year. Then, for each conference your child actually attends, you sign a separate conference consent form with that conference's dates, costs, and arrangements.
We collect both as signed hard copies. The MUN office sends them home, or you can request a copy by email. You can also download the registration form here.
Only students with a signed consent form for that conference are counted as part of the QAS MUN group. The form is what places your child in our care. If a student attends an MUN conference outside the school group, whether on their own or with their parents or a nanny, the school is not responsible for that student.
One international conference this year: Change the World MUN in New York, 1 to 4 April 2027, plus travel days confirmed at registration. We also attend national conferences here in Qatar across the year.
New York City, across multiple venues. Opening and closing ceremonies are linked to the United Nations Headquarters, subject to approval by the UN Secretariat. The full schedule is published by the organiser closer to the dates, and we pass it to you as soon as we have it.
Registration runs in December to January. Places are limited and selection is competitive. A place in the after-school activity does not guarantee a seat in New York. We select across the year on attendance, progress, motivation, skills, and conduct. See the Calendar for the full detail.
Two ways. We send a monthly MUN newsletter with what students are working on and what is coming up. Your child is also added to the MUN group on ManageBac, where we post tasks, reminders, and trip information. You see the same picture we do.
By email, at any time, including while students are away at the conference. Write to the MUN director (enable JavaScript to view the address). During the trip we monitor email and reply as soon as the schedule allows.
Students learn to use AI as a tool, within firm limits. Prepared documents may use a capped amount of AI: up to 20% for the position paper and up to 30% for working papers. Sources are mandatory and we check them, and students declare what they used AI for. The resolution itself is written live at the conference with no screens at all, so the thinking on the day is entirely the students' own.
Conferences often include a formal dinner or a cultural evening, usually running into the evening. We know these are sensitive for parents, so they sit on the conference consent form and we ask for your agreement. For conferences here in Qatar, you stay responsible for your child during and after these evenings, including getting them home safely, whether with your driver or a nanny. For conferences abroad, the arrangements are different and decided case by case for each one. We will tell you the plan in advance.
